In 1959 Mr George Taylor opened a D.I.Y shop in Lydyett Lane, Barnton, Northwich which his wife Sheila ran, selling paint, wallpaper hardware and glass.
George was a painter and decorator for ICI and in 1964 took voluntary redundancy and began to expand the business. He concentrated on the glass and D.I.Y. side until 1968 when he installed his first double glazed unit manufactured by Pilkington Glass.
In 1974 the business was moved to the Bull Ring in Northwich town centre, where we began to install aluminium frames fitted with double glazed units, the first concept in modern double glazing. The business expanded taking on 2 school leavers Stuart Davies and Colin Maguire who we are proud to say are still working at the company today.
The business continued to grow and in 1981 there was a need to move to larger more modern purpose built premises on Leicester Street, Northwich, which housed an exclusive well presented and stocked showroom and glass trade counter, along with a factory where we have the ability to manufacture bespoke and standard double glazed units and frames.
After 5 years the premises doubled in size due to the growing popularity of the glazing industry.
As Northwich Glass continued to grow it was necessary to move the business into a much larger purpose built building in 1994 just a few hundred yards down the road but remaining on Leicester Street the new building was presented.
The business is family owned and run. George Taylor retired in 1993 and the business was run by George's 3 sons, Anthony Keith and Andrew and Kevin Bishop who has been with the company since 1964. During 2014 Kevin Bishop took the decision to retire from the business after serving 50 dedicated years to the business, leaving the business with the three sons to George.
It was during late 2015 that the 2 of the 3 sons decided to move away from the double glazing business, where during 2016 the business was sold to a private individual bringing additional funding, resources and an increased product offering to help support our customer needs and wants that little bit more, Andrew remains at the company as key member of the team.
